Edna Mae Allen, age 78, was born in Dilles Bottom (Belmont County) to Edward and Rose Marie (Doty) McVay. Born March 25, 1935, she loved her rose garden 'til she couldn't work in it anymore. She made afghans for her children and grandchildren and lots of friends.
Edna was a member of Johnsville Grace United Methodist Church, Williamsport Grange and VFW Post #5101 Auxiliary, and enjoyed crocheting crafts, reading, playing cards, and solving crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her best friend and companion Virgil Walker of Johnsville; four children Cathy Setser of Johnsville, Cindy Allen of Lexington, Steve (Marie) Allen of Mansfield and Greg (Chris) Allen of Perrysville; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law Catherine McVay of Shadyside and Sara McVay of St. Clairsville; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Gale W. Allen; a son-in-law Ronnie Setser; sisters Lois Barker & Eileen Prickett and brothers George, Homer, Wayne & Dale McVay.
The Allen family will receive friends Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where her funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Dr. Beverly Hall will officiate and burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park near Lexington.
