George Desbrough Austin was the son of George Austin and Elnora Avery. He spent his earliest years at Wolcott, Wayne Co., New York, but his family had removed to Utica, Oneida Co., New York by 1900. George married (1st) Mary J. Moore on 24 June 1903 at Utica. George was employed as a Belt Maker by the Smyth-Despard Company at Utica where they resided. George and Mary divorced between 1920 and 1925. They had five children: Glenn H., Margaret L., James Edwin, Alice M., and Dorothy M. Austin.

George married (2nd) Estelle M. "Stella" Bishop, daughter of Calvin T. Bishop and Marguerite Arnold of the Town of Venice, Cayuga Co., New York ca. 1925. George and Stella resided at Utica until ca. 1944 when they bought property near Stewart's Corners in Venice. They appear to have briefly lived at Syracuse, Onondaga Co., New York and Moravia, Cayuga Co., New York in 1944 and 1945 before settling at Stewart's Corners where they remained for the rest of George's life. George died in 1964. George and Stella had no children together.

"George Austin, 81, of Venice Dies - George Austin, 81, husband of Mrs. Estelle Bishop Austin of Venice, died Tuesday in Auburn Memorial Hospital after a short illness. A native of Wolcott he was a retired belt maker for the Smythe-Bespard Co. [NOTE: Smyth-Despard Co. from other sources - R. A. Post] of Utica. He lived in Venice for 20 years. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, Auburn. Surviving besides his widow are three daughters, Mrs. Margaret Anderson of Reno, Nev., Mrs. Alice Jones and Mrs. Dorothy Christman of Utica; two sons, James and Glen Austin of Utica, eight grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at the Seventh-day Adventist Church with R. H. Wentland offciating. Burial will be in Genoa Rural Cemetery. Friends may call at the Wade Funeral Home in Moravia from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday."
