Word was received here on Tuesday afternoon of the death of Mrs. John Christopherson of the town of Charlestown which occurred shortly after 2:00 p.m. that day. Mrs. Christopherson has been ailing for the past two months but her death was rather sudden and unexpected. Heart trouble is given as the cause. The funeral was held on Friday afternoon from the house with interment in the Valders cemetery, Rev. White of Valders officiating.
Mrs. John Christopherson, nee Sigrid Melby was born in Norway on Jan. 16, 1843. She grew to young womanhood in her native land and in 1872 was united in marriage to John Christopherson. In 1873 she and her husband, seeking a new home, came to this country and settled in Manitowoc County where they established a home for themselves. About thirty-eight years ago they purchased a farm on the eastern border of the town of Charlestown, now owned by Mr. Christopherson and have lived there ever since.
Nine children were born to them, six of whom are living namely, Chris of the town of Charlestown, Sever of Mercer, John of Green Bay, Carl of Woodruff, Conrad of Minocqua and Bennett of Milwaukee. Mrs. Christopherson is also survived by her husband.
The deceased was a woman of sterling character and a kind and loving wife and mother. Coming to a strange land with her husband in the early seventies she was undaunted by the hardships of farm life and gave every assistance to her husband and family to make their home as comfortable as possible. She was respected and admired by her neighbors and friends who feel that the community has sustained a great loss in her sudden death and whose sympathy goes out to the bereft family.
