Laura Bell Polston was born to Alexander and Sophia Polston in Russel County Kentucky. The 1880 census finds her living with her parents and siblings, Asa, Elizabeth, Lavinia, Harrison, and Miller in Monticello, Wayne Kentucky. She married John Land on August 20, 1885. They had 3 children, Sophia Elizabeth (my g-grandmother), Alice and Arvel Land. Following her first husband, John Land's death, she married William Simmons in 1900. They had four children together, Proctor, Marvan, Hester and James Simmons. Sadly, she died April 27, 1912 at age 46 in Russell County, Kentucky. Her death certificate lists the cause of death as Tuberculosis. Tuberculosis also took her eldest son, Arvel, at age 20, as well as her brother, Harrison.
