— Mr. Kennedy was born July 3, 1940, in Sharon, a son of Howard and Emma Glover Kennedy.

He was a lifelong area resident and a 1958 graduate of Hickory High School, Hermitage.

After graduating, Dick was employed for more than five years at the former Donnelly's Golden Dawn in Hermitage before embarking on a career in law enforcement. He served the City of Hermitage as a police officer for 32 years, retiring in February of 1996.

Dick was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage; Fraternal Order of Police; and Free and Accepted Masons Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex.

A car buff, he enjoyed restoring cars, attending car shows and tending to his 2006 Ford Mustang. He also liked tinkering in his workshop on projects.

Dick was extremely dedicated to his family, particularly his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom he helped care for.

His wife, the former Dorothy J. Taylor, whom he married Aug. 26, 1961, passed away May 26, 2006.

Surviving are: a daughter, Kimberly A. Odem, Hermitage; four grandchildren, Tierney Kennedy, Tiara Odem, Misty Sagenich and Darin Sagenich; three great-grandchildren, Julian Richards, Samorah Richards and Chanel Brown; a brother, Ted Kennedy and his wife Gail, Hermitage; a sister, Dana Hale and her husband Richard, Hermitage; several nieces and nephews; and a special aunt, Josephine Hosack, Port Orange, Fla.

Besides his wife, Dick was preceded in death by a daughter, Michele Sagenich; a son, Richard Kennedy; a brother, James Kennedy; and a son-in-law, Brian Sagenich.
