Salt Lake City, Joseph Richard Andersen, 82, beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather died October 13, 2000, after a courageous battle with complications from pneumonia.

Born July 25, 1918 in Spring City, Utah to Niels J. and Ada M. Andersen.

Attended Spring City schools and North Sanpete High. Loved football and played at North Sanpete High. Attended Utah State University from 1939 to 1941, he then served his country in World War II.

Married Norma Elise Nielsen in the Salt Lake Temple on August 7, 1942. She preceded him in death May 11, 1990. Married Betty Mickelson April 29, 1992 in Las Vegas, Nevada, whom survives him. He is a lifetime member of the Fort Douglas Hidden Valley Country Club and Utah Home Builders Association.

He was a "Giant" in the Home Building Industry and development promotions. One of the first to pioneer the affordable subdivision's housing in 1958 with his partners. This includes - Hidden Village, Indian Village in Salt Lake, Ogden, Brigham and Idaho Falls. He also developed projects in Park City and Jeremy Ranch. At the time of his death was working for John H. Homes and Associates.

Survived by daughter, Vicki Lynn Eccel (husband Robert), Salt Lake; sister, Elva Meyrick (husband Verl), of Murray; 2 brothers, Phil L. (wife Barbara), St. George, Hal L., Denver, CO; and grandchildren Kate and Chris, Salt Lake.

He gave his family the real gift of unconditional love and devotion. His kindness, compassion, generosity and sense of humor made this place a better world.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, October 17, from 6-8 pm, at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 18, 2 pm, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 10600 So. 1700 E., Sandy, where friends may call one hour prior to services. Interment, Larkin Sunset Gardens.
