On March 5th he was off duty in the Hyde Park Cafe. Frank Kane and his wife entered. Kane had been drinking and the two who had a previous disagreement got into a scuffle. Doyle drew his service revolver and both men were wounded in the struggle.
He was the son of James F. Doyle and Anna Stephens Doyle. His widow moved to Dallas, Texas and remarried.
Services were held at St Clotilde Church.
