Monica served in the British Air Force for four years, working as a coast watcher during World War II. She lost two fiancés, both fighter pilots, during the war. Monica emigrated to the United States in 1949, followed by her brother Bob in 1950.

Survivors were her brother, Robert "Bob" Harris, his wife, and many nieces and nephews.

Robert Dermot Harris passed away on December 19, 2013. A memorial service, accompanied by a bagpiper, was held for both Monica and Robert on February 1, 2014, at Oak Grove Presbyterian Church in Southampton Township, New Jersey.
