Delta resident, Edna D. Blackwell, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 in Delta, CO. She was 98.

Edna D. Shirley was born to James and Flossie (McNeil) Shirley on April 25, 1915 in Frederick, Oklahoma. She spent her childhood and attended schools in Clauene, TX.

On October 10, 1931, Edna married Willie D. Blackwell in Clovis, NM. To this union, three sons were born. The Blackwells resided in Albuquerque, NM for many years before moving to Delta 17 years ago.

Edna enjoyed flowers, tending to her gardens, crocheting, and she was a beautiful seamstress. More importantly, she was a devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother.

Edna was a member of the Rio Grande Baptist Church in Albuquerque, NM.

Edna is survived by three sons: Noah W. (Charlotte) Blackwell, of Delta; Billie Wayne (Odell) Blackwell, of Tow, TX; and Ronald Douglas (Beth) Blackwell, of Checotah, OK; brother, Glenn Shirley, of Levelland, TX; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Edna was preceded in death by two grandsons, Dean Blackwell and Randy Blackwell.

A funeral service honoring Edna's life will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Delta, with Pastor James Conley presiding. Burial will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the Gunnison Cemetery.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made in Edna's memory to HopeWest Hospice, P.O. Box 24, Delta, Colorado 81416.
