In Memory Of
Edna "Grandma" Elizabeth Parker
January 19, 1925 - January 31, 2014

Edna Elizabeth Anderson Parker, notorious prankster and bowler extraordinaire, died peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on January 31st , 2014. A lover of Fincher's BBQ, cheese grits, and turnip greens, Edna was a feisty Southern girl who lived life to the fullest. Without question, she was a fighter, having battled breast cancer, heart attack, stroke, brain tumor, kidney cancer, diabetes, and the horror of her youngest daughter marrying a Georgia Bulldog. Though Edna will be greatly missed – as all truly unique characters are – she leaves behind a legacy that will never be forgotten. Born at home in Sparks, Georgia, on January 19, 1925, Edna was the fifth of Grover and Lizzie Anderson's nine children. During World War II, she found work in the Savannah shipyard, and it was there that she met her future husband, James Pierce Parker. After marriage, Edna assumed the roles of housewife and mother, raising three angelic daughters and one devilish son. (It was her son's recruitment to play football at Georgia Tech that earned Edna's undying devotion to the Yellow Jackets – and her subsequent loathing of all things Bulldog.) A self-taught cook, Edna could draw a crowd with her buttermilk biscuits and country-fried steak. An accomplished seamstress and a whiz with crochet needles, she always made sure her family members were well dressed. Somewhere in the midst of cooking, sewing, crocheting, and child-rearing, Edna found time to pick up a new hobby – bowling. Like everything else she attempted, she mastered it quickly, and so began a love affair that lasted for decades.
We will celebrate Edna's life with a memorial service at Park Memorial United Methodist Church on Monday, February 3rd , at 1 PM. Reverend Cecil Hazen will officiate, and the family will greet friends at the church one hour prior. After the service, we will travel to Glen Haven Memorial Gardens, to place Edna next to her beloved husband, Parker, who preceded her in death in 1979 and has been lobbying The Man Upstairs on her behalf ever since.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Park Memorial UMC 5290 Arkwright Road, Macon, GA 31210, or Magnolia Manor, 200 Pierce Avenue, Macon, GA 31204
