Rudolph Engel was born December 20, 1898 to Christian and Karolina (Finkbeiner) Engel in Russia. They were Germans from Russia. He immigrated to the United States in 1902 with his family. They settled in the Garrison, North Dakota area where he received his education. In 1922, he married Helen Bossert and they lived in Garrison until 1932 with their seven children. In the fall of 1932, they moved to the Wing, ND area. Rudy rented land from the Patterson Land Co. He also took sheep on shares from this company. In the 1940's, Rudy and Helen bought this same farm. They farmed about 300 acres and the rest was pasture. They raised seven children. Everybody did their share of work. They milked a lot of cows, had many sheep and Helen always had a big garden. Rudy bought a threshing machine. Every fall he would hire a crew of men and he threshed for all his neighbors. Helen would cook for all the men.  Rudy was very active in work outside the farm. He was a member of the Wing Lions Club, on the school board, a member of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Wing, Farmers Union, the Wing Horse Club and a member of the Wing Creamery. As the years passed by, Helen and Rudy had five more children, making twelve children! As the children grew up and left home, Rudy sold out in 1956. He went south to combine. When he got back, there wasn't much to do so he bought some sheep.  By 1961, they sold the farm and moved to Bismarck. He became employed with the Billy Rippley Construction Company until 1969. Helen and Rudy raised their first grandchild, Ardith who was born in 1941. Helen and Rudy enjoyed their large family. Rudy passed away in Bismarck, North Dakota on March 6th, 1971.
