Joseph Chester Biernat died on Friday, January 24, 2014 at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis. He was 76 years old.
Joseph was born on August 22, 1937 in Anoka, Minnesota to Stanley and Agnes (Rockwell) Biernat. He lived in Northeast Minneapolis and moved to Columbia Heights, Minnesota; and then to Mora where he has lived for the past 40 years. He attended a vocational high school in Minneapolis training to be a printer. He was united in marriage to Donna M. Boniarczyk on July 25, 1959. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service for 30 years, and retired in 1992. He loved playing his concertina and accordion, had a passion for bowling, loved gardening, fishing and golfing.
He is preceded in death by his parents Stanley and Agnes Biernat; brothers Frank, Ted, and Walt; sisters Adeline, Valerie, Stephanie and Gladys.
He is survived by his wife Donna (Boniarczyk), daughters Joël (Brad) Long of Big Lake, MN; Becky (Jim) Bryant of Mora; sons Thomas (Brenda)Biernat of Ham Lake, Minnesota and Anthony (Danielle) Biernat of Princeton, Minnesota; grandchildren Ashley Bryant of North Branch, Brandon Biernat of Andover, Matthew Bryant of Mora, Jacob Long of Big Lake, Aaron Long of Big Lake, and Katelyn Biernat of Ham Lake.
Mass of Christian Burial is being held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, January 31, 2014 at St. Kathryn's Catholic Church in Ogilvie with Father Eugene Plaisted officiating. Music is being provided by Mary Heins and the St. Kathryn's Choir. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 5 until 7 P.M. at Dresser-Methven Funeral Home in Mora as well as one hour prior to the service at the church. Casketbearers are Matt Bryant, Brandon Biernat, Aaron Long, Jacob Long, Roy Morgan and Keegan Olson. Burial will be at St. Kathryn's Catholic Cemetery.
He was known as "Joey the Concertina King" during his musician days.
