[Typewritten:] Mary, daughter ·of Cornelius Low, and wife of Jacob R. Hardenbergh, died Feb. 25, 1811, aged 72 [in pencil:] 215
Thanks to Ted Brandi (49447439) for suggesting that the year of death must be a transcription error. He stated as follows:
Hello - sorry to muddy things, but I don't think she could have been born as early as 1739 if she is also listed as having had all those children, when she had them. Simple maths would indicate that it was very biologically unlikely...whereas I have it from another source that she was born 6 Oct 1768 (which is also much more in line with her husband, rather than 30 years his senior), and died not in 1811, but in 1841, which still would have made her around 72 years old, but much more within childbearing age when she had the children she's listed as having had. Thanks!
Research confirms the foregoing observations. For example, a newspaper extraction from Newspapers and Periodicals. American Antiquarian Society, Worcester, Massachusetts reads as follows:
Wednesday, February 24, 1841
Last eve, New Brunswick, N.J., Mrs. Mary M relict of Jacob R Hardenbergh, 72y.
The spelling of her last name as "Low" in this memorial reflects the spelling in the grave stone transcription records of The First Reformed Church. The spelling often is seen as "Lowe" in other secondary sources.
