He moved to Shelby County, Indiana in 1843. In 1845 he married his first wife, Elizabeth Walker.
They had two children from this marriage. William born 1849 and Martin Ray Cross born 1852. Elizabeth Walker died in 1852 the same year as her second child born.
He remarried in 1855 to Emma Houston who was only 15 years old in 1840.
Out of this second marriage was born, Helen, Edward and Henry Alexander Cross.
The 23rd of Dec. inn1863 he went in to the Union Army. And was assigned to muster company B and was in the 70th Infantry. Dec. 20th of 1864 he was discharged for Disability at Chattanooga, TN. as a Recruit.
He was drawing about 75 dollars a month as a pension as per his obituary.
