US Congressman. He was born in New Boston, New Hampshire, to Alexander Wilson and Mary Wilson and attended local common and public schools before eventually attending and graduating from the prestigious Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, in 1797. He then studied law in Johnston, New York, and was admitted to the bar. He later moved to Chillicothe, Ohio, in about 1805, and engaged in the practice of law. On November 8, 1808, he married Rachel Dixon and the couple had one son, William who was born in 1815. In 1818, he was made a Member of the American Antiquarian Society. He then moved to Newark, Ohio, where he pursued an interest in politics. He first served as Chief State Court Judge of the Court of Common Pleas serving in that position until 1823. He then decided to run for a seat in the United States Congress and was elected. A Democratic-Republican, he then served Ohio's 8th District (Eighteenth, Nineteenth, and Twentieth Congresses) in the United States House of Representatives from 1823 to 1827. While in the United States Congress, he served as Chairman of the Committee on Expenditures in the Post Office Department in the Nineteenth Congress. His term in the United States Congress expired on June 6, 1827, due to his death. He passed away while still in office in Newark, Ohio, following a long illness at the age of 54. He was first buried in the Old Cemetery but his remains were later moved to their current location at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Newark, Ohio.
