Mary Agnes McDermott, the daughter of Joseph and Anna Fulton Clark, was born on Nov. 21, 1905 at Belmond, Iowa. She grew up and attended school in Belmond. On Nov. 4, 1924, she was united in marriage with Christopher Henry McDermott at Eagle Grove. To this union were born five children. The family lived in Mason City, Waterloo, and Fort Dodge for a short time. In the late 1930's, the family moved to Eagle Grove, where Mr. McDermott was a brakeman and conductor for the Chicago, Northwestern Railroad for many years. He died in 1978. Mrs. McDermott was employed at the Scott Store in Eagle Grove for over 20 years. She was a long time member of the Sacred Heart Church in Eagle Grove and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and the Retired Railroad Employees Auxiliary.

She died at the Clarion Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion on Thursday evening, Jan. 27, 1983, at the age of 77 years, two months and six days. She had been a resident of the Clarion Care Center since last November and in the hospital for the past week.

Surviving are her daughters, Donna and her husband, Forrest Zody of Houston, Tx.; Colleen and her husband, Jimmie Johnson of rural Clarion; her sons, Richard and his wife, Paula McDermott of Waterloo; Joseph and his wife, Jeri McDermott of Newton; 19 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a half-brother, Joseph Clark of Waterloo; step-sisters, Fern Clark of Rochester, Minn., and Mrs. Elizabeth Tilton of Albuquerque, N.M. and a stepbrother, Barney Clark of Mason City; and other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Jack; a brother, two sisters and a grandchild.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Agnes McDermott, 77, of Eagle Grove, were held on Monday, Jan. 31, 1983 at 10:30 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Eagle Grove. Fr. Cecil McSweeney was the officiant and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery, Eagle Grove. The visitation was held at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home and the CDA Rosary was held at 4 p.m. on Sunday and the Parish Rosary was at 7:30 p.m. at the funeral home.
