He married Ruth Ann Sheldon, the daughter of Rev Ichabod Sheldon and Mary Niles on 29 Dec 1849 in Dearborn County, Indiana. Ruth died probably about 1855 in either Ripley or Jennings County.
Archibald's second wife was Francis (Fanny) Ann Cadby, the daughter of Stephen Cadby and Mary Ann Bush. They were married 24 Oct 1858 in Jennings County.
Archibald died on 14 Mar 1903 near the town of Alert, in Decatur County, Indiana, at the home of his daughter Mary and son-in-law, Michael Herring. He was buried in Cave Springs Cemetery on 17 Mar 1903.
