Sioux City - Colleen Andersen, 87, of Sioux City died Tuesday, 14 Jan. 2014, at Embassy Rehabilitation & Care Center in Sergeant Bluff. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Trinity United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Martha Anderson officiating. Burial will follow the funeral & a lunch will be served at Trimble UMC at approximately 12:30 p.m. Saturday. Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Colleen was born on 3 Apr. 1926, in Sioux City, the only child of Paul & Mildred Riese of Sioux City. Colleen graduated from North High in 1944. She left Sioux City for a short period of time to pursue her secretarial degree in Tennessee.
Upon completion of her degree, she returned to Sioux City & married Narcisse St. Onge. Colleen traveled to Japan when Master Sgt. Narcisse St. Onge was stationed there while fighting with the U.S. Army in the Korean War. Narcisse did not return from war & Colleen returned to Sioux City in the spring of 1950 as a young widow with a 2-year old son, Paul, & a new baby, Steve, on the way. In 1955, Colleen married Melvin Andersen who had 4 sons of his own, Matt, Rick, David & Perry. Colleen was a secretary at State Farm Insurance for 26 years. She enjoyed her career & retired in 1986.
Colleen was close to her parents & enjoyed many long & enduring friendships throughout her life. Colleen enjoyed her cats, movies, tennis & television game shows. She delighted in visits from her grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Colleen is survived by her grandsons, Matt St. Onge of Winona, Minn., & Dan St. Onge of Lakeville, Minn.; granddaughter, Stephanie Wilmot(St. Onge) of California; many great-grandchildren; 3 stepsons, Matt Andersen of Des Moines, IA., Rick Andersen of Sioux City, & David Andersen of Sioux City; & many stepgrandchildren & great-step-grandchildren.
Colleen was preceded in death by her first husband, Narcisse St. Onge; second husband, Melvin Andersen; son, Paul St. Onge; son, Steve St. Onge; stepson, Perry Andersen; stepgrandson, Steve Andersen; & parents, Paul & Mildred Riese.
