Thomas H. Gustin, son of John Gustin and wife Mary (possibly Mary Jane Bushnell), married Ruth Owen, daughter of Timothy Eleazar Owen and Ruth Mowbray, of Goshen, Orange Co., New York, about 1759, and they had eight children:

1 - John (1760-1830) married 1) about 1782, Esther Price (1766-1793), and 2) after 1793, Sarah Allen (1768-1844).

2 - Timothy (1762-1834) married 26 Dec 1781 (Frankford Twp, Sussex Co., New Jersey), Elizabeth Hough (1773-1846).

3 - Thomas (1763-1840) married Jane Huie (1771-1816).

4 - Samuel (1766-1848) married Charity Decker (1763-1839).

5 - Jesse (1768-1842) married Mary Knapp (1774-1861).

6 - David (1771-1816) married 1) 16 Jun 1803 (Sussex Co., New Jersey), Margaretta Roy (1780-"about 1808"), and 2) married 01 May 1808 (Sussex Co., New Jersey), Elizabeth Roy (1780-1851). NOTE: The Gustine Compendium, p. 235, states Margaretta and Elizabeth were twin daughters of John Roy (Isle of Jersey), and provides a birth year of 1780. Find A Grave Memorial No. 16552286 gives Margaretta's year of death as 1810, but another site's transcription of the Yellow Frame Presbyterian Church Cemetery shows her death date as "about 1808," indicating the headstone may have been erected later. Family Search has images of two original marriage records showing the 1808 marriage of David Gustin and Elizabeth Roy 1) on a scrap of paper and 2) mixed in with 1812-1813 marriages at "New Jersey, County Marriages, 1682-1956," index and images, FamilySearch (the right-hand set of pages on the image).

7 - Mary (1773-1836) married before 1800, Daniel Havens (1773-1833).

8 - Benajah (1784-1841), married 1) about 1805, Sarah Sherrerd (1786-1825/1830), and 2) about 1832, Nancy Stewart (b. about 1800). Nancy last appears on the 1860 census (Perkins Twp., Erie Co., Ohio).

Letters of Administration for Thomas Gustin, Goshen Precinct, Orange Co., New York (Intestate), were granted to "Widow, Ruth, and son, John," on 27 Aug 1784.

Thomas Gustin's widow, Ruth Gustin, is the head of household in 1790 (Warwick, Orange Co., New York), and Warwick was one of the towns formed from Goshen in 1788.

The widely-circulated "April 1814" date of death suggested for Thomas Gustin appears to come from a confusing passage in The Gustine Compendium, pp. 208-209, and actually belongs to Anning Owen (brother of Thomas Gustin's wife, Ruth Owen).

The Gustine Compendium, p. 207, states that Thomas and Ruth (Owen) Gustin were both "buried under the old church at Florida, Orange Co., New York," "...their tombstones forming a part of the foundation walls" (source of 2nd half of quote: Northwestern New Jersey: A History of Somerset, Morris, Hunterdon, Warren and Sussex Counties, by A.
