Ray attended and graduated from Sleepy Eye Public Schools. He served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged. Ray worked as a horse trainer and was employed at the Farmer's Elevator in Sleepy Eye. He also spent many years on his farm hear Leavenworth. Ray was known to open his home many times to children providing them guidance, love, and support to achieve a better life. Ray's passions were horses, hunting, fishing, farming, and his grandkids.
Ray was united in marriage to Patricia "Pat" V. Tauer on July 28, 1964. The couple resided in the Sleepy Eye area their entire married life where they raised their three children, David, Daniel, and Deborah.
Ray was well loved and respected by his family and community members. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, his three children David (Lauri) of Evan, Daniel (Deb) of Evan, and Deborah (Lonny) Cathcart of Rolling Hills, WY; grandchildren - Samantha, Shelby, Christopher, Matthew, Jeremy, Cecily, Randy, Brie, Timothy, Kendra, Brody, and Katelyn; and great grandson Jackson were the light of his life. He became an instant softy where they were around.
He is also survived by his siblings Ronald (Betty) of Sleepy Eye, Shirley Cannon of Sleepy Eye, Beverly (Tom) Carnell of Bloomington, MN, Phyllis (Don) Thompson of Hillman, MN, Gail (Russell) Sorenson of Sleepy Eye, and sisters-in-law - Dee Alt of Mankato, MN and Sandy Alt of Sartell, MN and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law - Larry Tauer, brothers - John Jr. and Charles; and his brother-in-law - Art Cannon.
