Joseph Carl Billig, 64, of McClelland Street, Polk, died suddenly at 1:55 am today in his home following a stroke suffered half an hour earlier. He had been in failing health the past 10 years. He was born Oct. 2, 1895 in New Vernon Township, Mercer County, son of Frank and Alice McElroy Billig.

He was reared in Mercer County and lived on farms in New Vernon and Millcreek Townships. He moved to Polk several years ago and began work in the storeroom of Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co. in 1942, and retired 8 years ago due to ill health. He was a member of the New Lebanon Community Church.

On June 27, 1917 he married Gladys McCracken, and she survives,, with two children, Mrs. Lester (Mildred) Harris of Cass Grande, AZ, and Paul Billig of Wickliffe, OH; 2 grandchildren; a brother, Earl Billig of Sandy Lake; and a number of nieces and nephews.
