Earl Theodore Ake of Roswell, Georgia, passed away Sunday, February 9th, 2014 after a prolonged battle with Parkinson's disease.

He was born on October 27, 1929 in rural Blair County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of the late Homer and Beatrice Ake and was taught in a one-room schoolhouse by his father, a school teacher.

He graduated from Williamsburg High School in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania, and from DeVry Institute in Chicago, Illinois. In 1951, he was inducted into the U.S. Army and served in the Signal Corps during the Korean War at Camp Cook, California. In 1952, he met and married Dorace Cole of Aurora, Oregon. After the war, they relocated to Portland, Oregon and lived there until 1956, when he went to work for The Dalles TV Company in The Dalles, Oregon as a TV repairman. He eventually became manager of The Dalles TV Company, and was serving in that capacity when it was acquired in 1970 by Cox Cable. In 1973, he and his family relocated to Roswell, Georgia, where he became Director of Engineering for the South East at Cox Cable in Atlanta.
Earl joined the Lions Club in The Dalles in 1957, where he served faithfully in various roles including club president. After relocating to Roswell, he joined the Roswell Lions Club and completed a total of more than fifty years in Lions. Earl was instrumental in starting the Roswell Lions Christmas Tree fundraising project. In 2007 he was elected to the Lions Club of Northwest Georgia Hall of Fame.

Earl and Dorace along with their three sons became members of Calvary Baptist Church in The Dalles. After relocating to Georgia, the family joined the First Baptist Church of Roswell. Earl served faithfully in the choir and as a deacon in the churches where they attended.
Earl loved music and sang in community choirs and barbershop quartets. His musical talents were shared by his wife and passed to his sons and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dorace Ake.

He is survived by his three sons, Tim Ake and wife Carol, Jeff Ake and wife Tammy, and David Ake and wife Karen; twelve grandchildren, Stephen (Emily), Colin (Nikki), Bryan (Toni), Melissa, Beth Anne, Amanda, Amy, Scott, Courtney, Sarah, Sam, and Diana and 2 great-grandchildren, Braden and Madison; niece Jody Scheresky.

The family will receive visitors at Roswell First Baptist Church at 3:00 pm on Sunday, February 16th, followed by a celebration of his life at 4:00 pm. Burial will be at the National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia.
