U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Jefferson College, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1836, then moved to Galena, Illinois and practiced law. In 1843, he was elected as a Democrat to the Twenty-eighth and Twenty-ninth Congresses, serving until 1847. Not a candidate for re-nomination, he moved to California, in 1853, practiced law and was a judge of the San Francisco superior court from 1889, until his death at age 80.
