U.S. Congressman. He attended Amsterdam Academy, Williams College, Princeton College, graduated in law from Washington and Lee University, in 1895, was admitted to the bar and commenced to practice law in Lorain, Ohio. Entering politics, he was Lorain City Solicitor, (1901 to 1904) and a member of the Ohio State House of Representatives, (1910 to 1913). In 1915, he was elected as a Republican to the Sixty-fourth Congress, serving until 1917. An unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed the practice of law until his death.
