U.S. Congressman. After graduating from the law department of the University of Missouri, in 1910, he was admitted to the bar and opened a legal practice in Columbia, Missouri. Moving to Nowata, Oklahoma, in 1911, he continued the practice of law and was Mayor of Nowata, (1913 to 1914). He also was member of the Nowata Board of Education, (1918 to 1922), a member of the Oklahoma State House of Representatives, (1918 to 1922) and chairman of the Tulsa County Republican Committee, (1928 to 1936). In 1945, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventy-ninth and Eightieth Congresses, serving until 1949. In 1951, he was elected to the Eighty-second Congress and served until his death from a heart attack.
