Muriel was more like a second mother to me, way more than an aunt. Muriel and Ted had just one daughter, Nancy, who was also more than a cousin to me, more like a sister. We were both only children and our parents saw a lot of each other. After she married, Nancy moved to St. Cloud. Nancy and her family were not as close as Muriel would have liked. Muriel, however, saw them as much as possible. She treated my kids like they were her own grandchildren, making them special treats on Halloween, and such.
Muriel was an amazing woman, loved by everyone who had any contact with her. She was always dressed in style and with a flair, everything she had on matched. She loved to sing and spend time with her large extended family and friends. Over the years, she made many, many friends, but outlived them all. No problem, she made new, younger, friends and started to outlive them too. In late January of 2014, she fell and couldn't recover. She died a few days later, on February 2, in her own home, with her family at her side. She is buried at Fort Snelling National Cemetery with Ted, who died in 2020.
