Theresia Trumer (used Theresa in the US) was born in the Bohemian-Austrian Empire near Stuben, Austria in Oberplan which is today near Hurka & Horni Plana, Czech Republic just north of the Austrian border. Her age was incorrect on the ship list but her birth was about 1833 (census records vary). Horni Plana was also near the little village where the Wagners were from (two Trumer children married two Wagner children when they got to America).

Theresa went by Resa, Recia, or Resia on census records. She came as a 21 year old with her parents & siblings from Bremen, Germany on the Coriolan, arriving at Castle Garden, NY, NY on 6 Aug 1856. They then came and settled in the Town of Erin, Washington Co, Wis (ship listed destination as "Visconoy" which was Wis). The manifest listed them as from Czechoslovakia, Bohemia.

Theresa had her first daughter before her marriage as there is a record of her marriage 21 Feb 1859 (marriages were in chronological order at the St. Augustine Catholic Church at Holy Hill, Wis. This was in the marriage book 1854-2000 of Catholic churches from Richfield, Washington Co, Wis). Indexes of marriages of Wis listed their marriage on page 135 (no Vol & page #). Her daughter was born in 1857.

On the marriage her parents were listed as Math Drummer (should have been Mathias Trumer) and Magdalena Hasinger (much debate about her maiden name on various documents but her grave has her name Maria Magdalena Trumer). Witnesses were Peter Wagner (two Trumer children married two Wagner children) and Watzl (her daughter married John Watzl). Peter Schmitt's birth was listed in Darmstadt, Germany with his father as Petri Schmitt and mother as Margaret Thomas (deceased). His name on the marriage was Petrus Schmitt.

We have never found a death of Peter Schmitt but in 1860 they were living in the Town of Eagle Point, Chippewa Co, WI. We have not found them in 1870 but Theresa married second to a widower Charles C. Downs (born in Brunswick, Maine about 1835-1837). They lived in the Town of Bloomer, Chippewa Co, WI on the 1880 census and owned land in Section 35 T31N R9W of 80 acres which they were still listed as living at in 1895 on the state census and in 1902 it was listed as owned by Mrs. C Downs. Charles died March 1900 in the Town of Bloomer.

Theresa and Peter Schmitt had 7 children: Maria, Katherine, Peter, Jr, Barbara, John, Stephan, and Theresa (Recia) Jr. (the first 2 were born in Washingto Co, WI and the next 4 were born and baptized in Notre Dame Church in Chippewa Falls, Chippewa, WI between 1862-1868) and Recia Jr gives her birth in Bloomer, other records in 1870 say Washington Co, WI.

In 1880 the younger children were living with Charles Downs and Theresa (Recia) listed as step-children but with Smith instead of Schmitt.

In 1905 Theresa was listed in St. Paul, Ramsey, MN living near her daughter, also Theresa who was called Recia Schmitt Ackerman.

Theresa Downs died in St. Paul, Ramsey, MN on 15 January 1909 and was buried 18 January 1909 with her daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren in Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
