He graduated from Thorntown High School in 1937 and from Ball State in 1941 with a bachelor of science degree in education and he graduated from Indiana University in 1951 with a master's degree in education. He taught science at Indianapolis Tech High School for two years; Corydon High School (science teacher) for t10 years; at New Albany he taught science for one year; he was principal at Jackson Township in Boone County for two years; was principal at Milan High School for three years; principal at Linton High School for 10 years; principal at Martinsville High School for three years; and was principal and superintendant at Western Boone High School from 1973 until retiring in 1985. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Thorntown where he was past decon and elder; Phi Delta Kappa; Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents; Thorntown Lions Club, where he was a past president; Retired Teachers Association; and Lebanon Elks.
Survivors include, his wife, Betty (Schell) Brackemyre of Thorntown; three sons, David Brackemyre of Fort Wayne, John Brackemyre of Connersville, and Jay Brackemyre of Brooklin Park, Minn.; one sister, Helen Russell of Lebanon; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Funeral services will be at Russell & Hitch in Thorntown with the Rev. Ron Branson officiating. Burial will follow at Maple Lawn in Thorntown.
