Elliott Calvin Polk, of Varnville, departed this life February 14, 2014.

Born in Hampton County, November 22, 1923, he was the son of the late Russell and Venie Cook Polk.

Mr. Polk retired from Embler Door Company in Varnville as a foreman after 20 years and later worked for Cummings Oil Company. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the European/African Middle Eastern Campaign receiving the Purple Heart, the Good Conduct Medal, Bronze Star and his Jump Wings.

Elliott was a member of the Spirit of Life Ministries in Varnville and the American Legion Post# 108.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Juanita Bennett Polk of Varnville; two sons, Ronald M. Polk and wife Melissa of Hampton and Jessie Franklin Polk of California; two daughters, Sandra Harrelson of Varnville and Cheryl McKinney of Hampton; two sisters, Virginia Smith and Eileen Sullivan, both of Brunson; eight grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Polk was predeceased by a son, Larry Ray Polk.

Funeral services will be held February 17, 2014, in Spirit of Life Ministries Church, Varnville, Rev. David Schaffer and Rev. Dr. Tommy Kelly officiating. Burial, with military honors, will follow in Varnville Cemetery.
