Hattie Maude Woodward was born January 3, 1900 in Danville, the youngest daughter of William and Hattie Putnam Woodward. She grew up in Danville and attended Harvey’s School where she graduated from the 9th grade. For several years she worked as telephone operator in Barnet.
On April 15, 1918 the was united In marriage to Joseph Berard of Peacham. They first made their home in Peacham, moved to Graniteville and then returned to Danville. Eight children were born to this union Alcide and Emile of Danville, Leah (Mrs. Roland Wright) of Westmore, Ill., Bruno who died in infancy. Albert of Hartford, Conn. and Paul of Danville and Dale of Peacham. A twin son, Neil, died in infancy.
Mrs. Berard is survived by her husband, six children, her mother Mrs. Hattie Johnston of Fairfield, Conn., a sister, Mrs. Charles Caldwell, a brother, Ralph Woodward, eleven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Burial took place in Danville Green Cemetery with her four youngest sons as bearers. The many beautiful flowers at the service bore silent testimony of the esteem in which she was held by all who knew her.

H.; Ralph Woodward of Fairfield, Conn.; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Berard of Hartford, Conn.; Mr. and Mrs. Roland Wright of Westmont Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Arthur, Mrs. Fannie Arthur of Barnet; Mr. and Mrs. Everett Walbridge of Cabot, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pike of Concord and many friends from Peacham, West Barnet, St. Johnsbury and Passumpsic.
