Eugene C. Hillard, 41, Bellefonte, who was injured in a truck-car accident on Rt 144 near Axemann on July 5, died today at Centre County Hospital at 1:55am. Following an autopsy, W. Robert Neff, Centre County Coroner, said the cause of death was multiple traumatic injuries, including contusions and edema of the brain, resulting from the accident. It was Centre County's 11th traffic fatality this year. Mr. Hillard, 41, lived at 314 W. High Street, Bellefonte. He was born October 18, 1925 in Spring Township, a son of Henry C. and Anna J. Reese Hillard. He was married to the former Shirley Flack, who survives with a son, James A. Hillard, at home; his mother, and these siblings: Mrs. Richard Davis, Mrs. Ruth M. DeWitt and Gary Hillard, Bellefonte; Mrs. Walter Reed, Huntingdon; and Ronnie Hillard, State College. He was of the Methodist faith and a member of the Logan Fire Company, Ambulance Club, and fire police, American Legion and VFW. He was a Veteran of WWII, having served in the Navy as a fireman. He enlisted in July 1943 in Altoona and was discharged June 2, 1952 in Philadelphia. Burial will be at Centre County Memorial Park.
