PARTIAL NEWSPAPER OBITUARY:

"Sad Ending of the Life of Mr. Isaac Sanders Mahan".
It becomes our painful duty to announce the sad death of Mr. Isaac Sanders Mahan, old and highly esteemed citizen and business man of Lexington.

His death occurred Sunday afternoon at about one o'clock by his own hand! He had not been feeling well mentally, for several days, was despondent and gloomy.

On Sunday morning his condition was much worse and the gloom which seemed to have fallen upon him could not be lifted. At about 6 o'clock he sent his son after Dr. A.G. Jones, his family physician, who at once called at his residence and with whom he conversed for about an hour. Mrs. Mahan talked with him and endeavored to arouse him from his despondent mood, but was unsuccessful. His son Dick, also talked with him, as did George R. Watson, his step-son, but all without avail. He told them that his friends were all leaving and turning against him and that he could not stand it.

He walked from the house out into the yard once or twice during the morning and looked and acted so strangely, that his son went after him and asked him to come in and lie down, which he did. He did not eat dinner.

Later that day he was found dead, with a gash in his neck, made with his own pocket knife.

The grief-stricken widow and orphaned children have the sympathy of the entire community in their great sorrow.

Funeral Services were held at the residence Tuesday afternoon, at 1:30 and was attended by a vast concourse of friends. In the absence of Rev. Conover, Rev. Shaffer of the M.E. Church, assisited by Rev. Scott, of the U.B. Church, conducted the services at the home, after which McLean Lodge 206 I.O.O.F. , of which Isaac was a member, took charge. The procession to the grave was a large one and the burial service by the Odd Fellows, very impressive.

An Angel whispered take my hand and come with me,
your work here is done.
I went away to a place where there's no tears, nor sorrow only laughter and smiles, there will always be a tomorrow.
As I move amongst the clouds, I'll look down and smile upon you, while the angels sing a heavenly song.
I am not alone, all who went before are here, they awaited my return.
I know you'll grieve and wish I was still here;
I am here in the memories you hold dear.
Remember how much I love you and know I took your love with me.
I did not wish for you to cry, nor feel sad.
My pain is gone and I am FREE!
