John William (Bill) Alford, Jr., 61, a resident of Darien, passed away Saturday February 15, 2014.

Bill was born June 2, 1952 in Brunswick, Georgia, to Mary (Suge) Pitts Alford Cannon and the late John William Alford, Sr. He was a graduate of Darien High School, and was of the Baptist Faith.

Bill was a Shrimper, a member of the Darien City Police Dept, McIntosh County Sheriff's Dept, Warehouse Manager for Georgia Crown Distributing Co., and was currently self-employed as owner of Alford's Crabs (wholesale blue crabs).

Bill is a member of Live Oak Lodge #137 and Past Master in Darien, GA. He is also a former member and President of the Red Fez Shrine Club. Bill is also a member of Cox Hunting Club and the McIntosh County Rod and Gun Club.
Bill thoroughly enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing and boating. He loved the Altamaha Swamp and he enjoyed spending time with all of his family and friends.

Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Nancy H. Alford, son, Ashton Alford (Tammy) of Darien, daughter, Niki Alford Hilliard (Scott) of Carneghan, three grandchildren, Justin Alford, Bill Griffin both of Darien and Mary Barnes of Carneghan, his mother, Mary (Suge) Cannon, his grandmother, Mary (Granny) Alford of Darien, two sisters, Lou Johnson (James) of Fernandina Beach FL, Pat Durant of Darien, two brothers, Michael Alford (Nancy) of St. Simons Island, Scott Alford (Julie) of Tallahassee, FL, three step-brothers, Robert (Bob) Cannon of Jesup, Ralph Cannon of Molena, GA, and Victor Cannon of Miami, FL, a step-sister, Fay Moody of Riverdale, GA, three nieces and five nephews.

The family will receive friends in the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home from 6PM to 9PM Tuesday the 8th of February 2014.

The family request in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Masonic Home of Georgia, P. O. Box 4183, Macon, Georgia 31208, Operation fund.
