John was a native Houstonian and lifelong resident of the area. John married his wife June on July 22, 1961 in San Antonio, TX. John attended Lamar High School in Houston. He attended college at University of Texas and University of Houston. He retired from Goose Creek ISD where he worked as Tax Assessor Collector.
John enjoyed collecting Merchant Tokens with a primary interest in Texas Merchant Tokens which coincided with his interest in Texas History. In more recent years, he enjoyed sitting around his fire pit and communing with nature, family and friends. He was fondly referred to as Big Guy by his grandchildren and younger friends. John was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Baytown, TX for about 20 years.
John is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; June, children; Katherine and husband Charles, Walter, Karl and wife Dawn, grandchildren; Jacob, Brady and Tyler, his sister; Sharon and husband Dan, cherished sisters in law, brother in law, nieces, nephews and cousins and friends.
He is preceded by his parents; Walter J. Muth and Elizabeth Compton Muth, grandson; John Scott, brothers in law; Richard Roiz and John Herber.
Honoring the family as pall bearers are Charles Rayburn, Keith Homan, Scott Gillette, Nathan Minter, Mark Herber, Sam Ellis, John P. Muth and Jacob Rayburn.

Services for John Julius Muth will be Thursday February 20, 2014 at 2pm at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1200 East Lobit Ave, Baytown, TX with burial to follow at Sterling White Cemetery. Visitation will be held, Wednesday, February 19, 2014 from 5pm to 8pm at Sterling White Funeral Home, 11011 Crosby-Lynchburg Road, Highlands, TX.
