Truman Scott Gabbard, age 69 of Englewood, passed away Tuesday, January 28 2014 at his residence after a gallant fight with cancer.

A native of Holden, West Virginia and a resident of McMinn County since 1999, he was the son of the late Isaac Monroe and Lillie Margaret Webb Gabbard, and was preceded in death by a sister, Lucille Gabbard.

He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church and also a volunteer at CONTACT for several years. He worked for AT&T for 35 years in many capacities that moved him around living in Ohio, Colorado, New Jersey and retired to Tennessee 1999 where he made his home in McMinn County.

Scott served in the U.S. Army for eight years spending time in Germany during the Cold War and later a tour in Vietnam from 1966-1967. He was an avid traveler and flew extensively to all parts of the world with his wife. Nothing gave him more pleasure than to make airline reservations for himself, family and friends.

Survivors: Wife of 46 years, Elizabeth Ann (Betty) Gabbard of McMinn County; Daughter and son-in-law; Annette and Paul James Lanham of Nottingham, England; Sisters, Leona Martin of Arizona, Nadine Turner of Kentucky, Eleanor Johns of Ohio; Brothers, Robert Gabbard of Kentucky and Toney Gabbard ,Sr of Michigan; Two half-sisters, Linda Pelley of Ohio, and Kay Bingham of Kentucky; Sisters-in-law, Kathleen Wimmer, Susan Barberio, Janet and Bob Murmann; brother-in-law, Louis and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Barberio of Ohio. Also, had numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Funeral service will be 11:00am Monday at St. Mary Catholic Church with Father Michael Cummins officiating.

Interment will follow at McMinn Memory Gardens with Military Honors.

The family will receive friends from 2-4pm and 6-8pm Sunday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Mary's Parish Family Life Center 1291 E Madison Ave., Athens, TN 37303
