Obituary for Mr. Leonard "Red" LowderSenior Chief Petty Officer Leonard "Red" Lowder, U.S. Navy Ret., age 84, passed away on Sunday, February 16, 2014.
Mr. Lowder served over 26 years with the U.S. Navy and Navy Seabees and he was awarded many medals and accommodations during his service in the U.S. military. He was the Southeastern Bowling Champion in 1962 and was a pit crew mechanic for a professional race car driver for Charlotte Motor Speedway.
His first love has always been his loving wife. They were married for over 57 years. They had an everlasting love. As a father, he was the best and we loved and respected him so much. He loved his country and was proud of his service. Not only was he loved and respected by his family, but by many friends, co-workers and co-soldiers. He also loved his Lord and trusted in Him. We will miss you daddy. We loved you so very much.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robley and Rosie Lowder and 3 brothers, Horace, Jake and Dwight Lowder.
Survivors include his wife, Evone Dillard Lowder; 6 children, Jeannie M. Storey (Charles), Jeanette Galindo (Oscar), Jennifer Taylor (George), Jeffrey Lowder (Deidre), Leonard N. Lowder and Patti Cruz; 3 sisters, Melva Helms, Lorrine Frances Raymer and Josephine Blackwelder; 4 brothers, Tommy (Rebecca), George (Mickey), Lonnie and Gerald (Gayle) Lowder; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandson expected within days.
Friends are invited to visit the family from 6 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, February 19 at RIEMANN FAMILY FUNERAL HOME, 19130 Commission Road in Long Beach. On Thursday, February 20, visitation will be from 12 until the funeral service at 1 p.m.
Burial will follow at Biloxi National Cemetery with military honors.
