Alfred Trott was born and attended school in Brooklyn, New York. He married Lena May Harper and they had one daughter, Frances Harper Trott.
In 1898, he moved to Denver, Colorado, where he was employed by the Daniels & Fisher Company as a stock boy. He advanced to department salesman and went on to manage various departments. In 1929 he became President of the entire company - a position he held until his death in 1944. In connection with his duties as President, he and his wife traveled extensively in Europe.
He was a Trustee of the Colorado State Museum of Natural History, Director of the Demver Chamber of Commerce, and was active in the Denver Rotary Club and the Mile High Club.
