Alan Aittaniemi, 67 of Marstons Mills, died on February 17, 2014 after a long battle with cancer. He was the beloved husband of Barbara (Lorkiewicz) Aittaniemi to whom he was married 33 years.
Born in Barnstable, Alan was the son of the late Karl W. and Hazel Aittaniemi. He attended Barnstable Schools and graduated from Nichols College earning his BBA with a concentration in Forestry.
He went on to work at the Sandwich Game Farm, then the Sandwich Fish Hatchery becoming the Manager where he raised trout and stocked ponds for the enjoyment of the sportsmen. He hosted many groups for Hatchery tours. Alan then became a realtor and worked for Century 21 Sam Ingram Real Estate.
Alan was a kind and generous man. He was enjoying his retirement with fishing, cycling and travel.
In addition to his wife Barbara, Alan is survived by his daughter Gretchen Hui and her husband Billy of Charlton, his brother Karl Aittaniemi and his wife Dottie of West Barnstable and his granddaughter Alicia Hui. He is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours will be from 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, February 19th at the John-Lawrence Funeral Home, 3778 Falmouth Road, Marstons Mills. A service in the funeral home will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday. Burial will follow in the West Barnstable Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice.
