Mr. James A. Underwood, Sr. of Fredrick, MD passed away on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at Northampton Manor.
Born June 21, 1921 in Frederick he was the son of the late Alfred and Rebecca Underwood.
James served in the US Army during WWII. He served in the Honor Guard at Arlington National Cemetery where he walked the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.
He retired as a firefighter in Fort Detrick, Maryland.
James was an avid coin and stamp collector and also collected WWII memorabilia.
He is survived by his son Larry V. Underwood and daughter Victoria Charee Hudak, a brother, Barney Underwood, grandchildren, James A. "Buster" Underwood III, Traci Underwood-Miller, Scott C. Underwood, Ginger Underwood-Sparwasserr, Jodi Underwood-Hill, Ashley Hudak and Zachary Hudak, numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Ruby Ritter Underwood, his second wife, Mary Williams Underwood and his son, James A. Underwood Jr.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home on Thursday, February 20th from 6-9PM. Funeral services will be at the funeral home on Friday, February 21st at 2:00PM.
Burial with military honors will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery
