Of Abernethy, SK., and late of Calgary, AB., died at Monterey Place at the age of 90 years. The Funeral Service will be held in Knox United Church, Abernethy, SK., on Friday, November 15, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian R. Mee officiating. Interment in the Abernethy Cemetery. Don lived nearly all of his childhood and adult life on a farm 5 miles south of Abernethy. In 1929 when Don was 6 years old he moved with his family to the home farm. He attended school in Kenlis and Abernethy. In 1946 he married Marion Lewis. They lived on the home farm where they raised a family of four. They moved to Abernethy in 1997 and to Calgary in 2010. Marion died in 2011 and Don continued on at Monterey Place where he died peacefully with family at his side. For all of his working life Don was a farmer who worked hard and persevered through good times and bad. Don was a story teller and loved to entertain with humorous, spellbinding stories of people from every walk of life. He loved his family and his community. His strength, generosity, and kindness touched countless lives. He was giving of his time and was involved in many community and church organizations. His passion for oratory and drama will be long remembered. He will be deeply missed by his entire family, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who range in age from 1 to 65 years. He was predeceased by his wife, Marion in 2011, his parents, Chet and Mollie, sister, Jean and brothers, George, Mack and Larry. Don is survived by two sons and two daughters: Bryan (Pat) Lyster, Abernethy, SK., Donna (Ken) Pederson, Sharon (Brent) Smith and Lyall (Mich) Lyster all of Calgary, AB., his grandchildren Shannon (Maen) Saleh, Sara (Rick) Kreklewich, David (Corinna) Smith, Dan and Jenny Smith, Michael and Aaron Pederson and Shaun and Ben Lyster, his great-grandchildren, Aidan and Noah Saleh and Kailey and Kenton Kreklewich. Don is also survived by his sister Shirley Anne (Keith) McLean. Don received compassionate care at Monterey Place and for that the family is very grateful.
