In his early life he was a farmer, truck driver and a gas fitter.
On June 16, 1934 he married Mildred 'Millie' Esther Mentzer, in Washington County, MD, by the Rev. F. Berry Plummer. Millie survived him by 54 days.
They had one child, Ronald Allen Berger and six grandchildren, all surviving him.
Surviving siblings included, Frances Kell, Helen Gsell, Anna Rock, Edith Miller, Alice Grosh, Beulah Harshman, and Paul Berger. Edna Bingaman, Roy Berger, Ralph Berger, and William Berger pre-deceased him.
Tab died of a stroke.
