James Henley Fernald, 70 sided Sunday morning at his home following a long illness. He was born at west Poland Feb. 4, 1879, the son of former U. S. Senator Bert Fernald and Annie Keene Fernald.

Mr. Ferland was president of the Fernald, Keene and True Co., West Poland Canners. He was a member of the Maine Canners Association and the Tyrian Lodge of Masons, Mechanic Falls.

Besides his widow, Mildred Stanton Fernald, he is survived by a son Robert H. Fernald, West Poland; a daughter, Mrs. Carl Johnson, Morgantown. W. Va.; a sister, Mrs. Norris Eveleth, Kennebunk; and two grandchildren.
