Hazel Peurifoy was the 8th of 9 children born to Dexter E. "D.E." Staton and S. Bertha Moore Staton.
She grew up in the Brown-Norcott Section of Cabarrus County where her father ran a local store. She was a 1941 Graduate of Concord High School. She was also a graduate of the first Class of the Cabarrus Hospital School of Nursing, now the Louise Harkey School of Nursing at CMC-NE. She also did a special War Program at the Vanderbilt University Hospital School of Nursing. During the war she was a member of the Cadet Nursing Corps serving in Washington D.C. in 1945.
For over 50 years she was a Registered Nurse, often serving long term care for her patients. She ended her nursing career in 1993. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, The Carolina Cardinals NCHA Camping Club, and the United Methodist Women.
She was married November 6, 1943 to the late Robert E. Peurifoy (1925-2003).They remained married for 59 years until her husband's passing. They have three grown children, Trish, Robert and Jeff and their spouses and two grandchildren, the late Rebekah Peurifoy and the late Nathan Peurifoy
