John W. McKay was the son of Neill and (Elizabeth?) McKay of Robeson County, NC. Neill was the son of Scottish immigrants, Dugald and Mary McKay of Robeson County. None of their graves are marked.
Neill was born in Scotland about 1785-90 and immigrated in 1792 with parents and siblings. He was alive in Robeson County as late as 1806 and is believed to have married in NC and then removed to Georgia about 15 years later. Neill died sometime just before 1861, the year of Neill's heirs' Robeson County, NC, petition for the partition of Dugald McKay's Robeson County ~1000 acres in the fork of the Big and Little Raft Swamps, a region called "The Blackfork". The partition names Neill and Elizabeth's surviving children in 1861, and they were: Sarah McKay, wife of Jesse B. Webb, John W. McKay, and Elizabeth McKay Hunt wife of Elijah M. Hunt, all of whom lived out of NC.
