DOUGLAS L. ABBOTT
BELFAST – Douglas L. Abbott, 63, of 25 W. Hughes St. died Thursday, November 13, 1997, at Jones Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
Born July 14, 1934, in Wellsville, he was the son of William and Ada Abbott. On December 31, 1957, in Stannards he married the former Marjorie A. Scott who survives.
Mr. Abbott had lived most of his life in Belfast and was a graduate of Wellsville Central School.
For several years he was an automobile mechanic for various dealerships in the Wellsville area. He was an electrician for several years for King Electric in Wellsville. For many years he was maintenance foreman at Cuba Cheese Co. He also worked as an electrician at L. C. Whitford Construction Company in Wellsville. He was a life member of the Belfast Fire Department. He was a member of Wellsville Royal Arch Masonic Lodge 143 F&AM and the Cuba Masonic Lodge 306 F&AM.
Mr. Abbott had many hobbies, including photography, hunting, woodworking, camping and traveling.
Surviving in addition to his wife are his mother of Wellsville; three sons, Douglas L. (Debi) Abbott Jr., David L. Abbott, all of Rochester; a daughter, Debbie L. (John) Goho of Mount Morris; six grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; two sisters, Marilyn (Eugene) Cornelius of Wellsville and Linda (Tom) Weaver of Florida; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Theresa A. Abbott.
Friends called Friday at the Treusdell Funeral Home, Belfast, from 7 to 9 p.m. and Saturday, November 15, 1997, from noon to 2 p.m., at which time funeral services were held. The Rev. Lee Carlson, pastor of the Belfast United Methodist Church, officiated. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery, Belfast.
Memorials may be made to the Belfast Rescue Squad; Cuba Masonic Lodge 306 F&AM; Wellsville's David A. Howe Library; or the Belfast United Methodist Church.
