Virgil G. Driskell, 84, a life time area resident died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014, at the Vitas Hospice Unit.
Services will be 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 26, 2014, at the Carson-Speaks Chapel. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 8:00 pm Tuesday evening at the Chapel. Burial will take place in Mound Grove Cemetery. Virgil was born July 4, 1929 the son of the late Abner & Mattie (Maness) Driskell. He began working weekends when he was 12 years old at an automotive service station. During his life time he worked for florists, Wasson Mfg. Co, making patterns and cutting automobile seat covers. He retired from Trans World Airlines, where he worked as Lead Mechanic in the Fabric Shop at the Overhaul Base. He was a member of 1650 International Association of Machinist. Virgil was a Christian and member of Maywood Baptist Church since 1945. He was an Army Veteran, having served in the Korean War from 1951-1953. He is preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Abner Jr., Earl, and Robert Driskell; four sisters, Frances Driskell, Lucille Galland, Beatrice Blackmore, and Lela Justus. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of nearly 59 years; son, F. Michael Driskell, of Blue Springs; two brothers, Joseph (Barbara) of Indep.,Rev. David Driskell (Cathryn) of Lee's Summit; sister, Marie Purvis of Indep; and 2 sisters in law, Joyce & Patricia Driskell of Indep.; and many nieces and nephews.
