When Mary Jane was 8 years old this family was living in McLean County, Illinois. Mary Jane lived the remainder of her life in McLean County.
When Mary Jane was age 31, she was joined in marriage with Howell W. Rowlands in Lexington, Illinois, on March 12, 1873. On the 1880 Census they have 4 children, however, they had lost their first born daughter, Martha Mae in 1879. Her tombstone has birth year & death year 1879. I don't know if she was still born or if she lived for a little while.
Mary Jane had a total of 11 children. She lost 2 more babies, Alice Jean born and died in 1882, Huber Garfield born and died in 1884. Huber was twin to Hugh Garfield Rowlands, who lived to be 81. Her last born child Benjamin died at age 30 during the Flu Epidemic that started in 1918. Her remaining 7 children survived her.
After 39 years of marriage, Mary Jane's beloved husband , Howell died in 1912. She lived for 17 more years after the death of her husband and went home to be with the Angels in Heaven on October 5, 1929. Two days after her death, she was laid to rest in the Rowlands Section of Lexington Cemetery.
