Sally A. Hockensmith Long, 77, of McSherrystown, entered into God's eternal care with her family by her side, Sunday, February 23, 2014, at her home after a lengthy battle with cancer.
She was the wife of Ralph D. "Jack" Hockensmith, who died June 8, 1985, and Charles R. "Rich" Long, who died March 5, 2008.
Born November 3, 1936, in McSherrystown, she was the daughter of the late Raymond L. and Cora M. (Gross) Sanders.
Sally was a member of Annunciation Catholic Church in McSherrystown and SAVES. She was a 1955 graduate from Delone Catholic High School, McSherrystown. Sally was a former manager of Clearview Motor Inn and retired from Craft Light in Littlestown. She enjoyed cooking, baking, making apple butter and wine. She enjoyed her 2 cats Pepper and Mittens and eating out with all of her friends, but especially enjoyed her August Crab parties each year.
Surviving are two children, Michael J. Hockensmith and his companion Rita of Hanover, and Elizabeth A. Miranda and her husband Kenneth of McSherrystown; six step-children, two granddaughters; Carissa A. Sheaffer and her fiancé Angela of Hanover, Courtney E. Miranda and her boyfriend Robert of McSherrystown, three grandsons; Brent M. Hockensmith and his wife Erica of Hanover, Drew D. Hockensmith and fiancé Shannon of Hanover and Jacob N. Hockensmith and girlfriend Allison of York and a great-grandson Reed A. Hockensmith, a brother; Roy E. Sanders and his wife Dolores of York, two sister-in-laws; Carolyn Sanders of New Port News, VA and Nancy Sanders of Hanover and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers; Thomas B. and Kenneth R. Sanders.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10 am Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Annunciation Church in McSherrystown, with Rev. Lawrence W. Sherdel as celebrant. Burial will follow in Annunciation Cemetery, McSherrystown.
