He was born on June 9, 1947 on the family farm in Stringtown in Newton County.
He was a U.S. Army veteran and was a retired operator at chemical plants.
He is survived by his son, Tommy Hougesen and wife, Lisa of Sour lake, Texas, his brothers, Eddie Hougesen and wife, Charlene and James Ray Hougesen and wife, Linda all of Newton, his sister, Norma Hougesen LaBeth of Six Mile, Texas and grandchildren, Kimber Ann Hougesen and Ty Andrew Hougesen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harry Edren and Annie Bee Eddins Hougesen and his brother, Tommy Hougesen.
Visitation will be on Saturday from 5pm until 8pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton, Texas.
Funeral services will be on Sunday, March 2, 2014 at 2pm at Smith Funeral Home in Newton.
Burial to follow at the Hougesen Family Cemetery in Stringtown.
