James Preston "J.P." Hamlet, 71, of Lynchburg, went to be with his Lord, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, February 25, 2014, with his loving wife of 50 years, Lyndia Grogan Hamlet and his family by his side. Born in Brookneal, October 28, 1942, he was a son of the late Robert Lee Hamlet and Lula Morton Hamlet. He retired from Babcock and Wilcox with over 43 years of service and was a member of Thomas Road Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, William "Bill" Hamlet, Dave Hamlet, and Robert Hamlet. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Bryan Keith and Robin Hamlet; one grandson, Justin Robert-Michael Hamlet; one granddaughter, Casey Nicole Hamlet; one sister, Carol Hamlet Waller and her husband, Owen of Nathalie; two brothers, Harold Hamlet and his wife, Dorothy of Appomattox, and Melvin Hamlet of Lynchburg; three sisters-in-law, Betty Hamlet of Gladys, Peggy Hamlet of Lynchburg, and Mary-Sue Grogan Thurmond and husband, Tom Thurmond of Richmond; a brother-in-law, Mark Allen Grogan and his wife, Sandra of Lynchburg; and many loving nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday, March 1, 2014, at Whitten Timberlake Chapel with the Rev. David Heerspink officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8:30 p.m. Friday, February 28, 2014, at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
